ABOUT DR. TERVANOTKO

Hanna Tervanotko (born in Vantaa, Finland) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. Her research focuses on the Jewish texts of the Second Temple era. Her research interests include women and gender in antiquity, divinatory methods, rituals, healing, and ancient and contemporary interpretations of the Scriptures.

Dr. Tervanotko got her doctorate as a double degree (Cotutelle de Thèse) in 2013. Her Ph.D./Th.D. was granted by the University of Helsinki (Department of Biblical Studies) and the University of Vienna (Jewish Studies). She was a visiting scholar in the United States, Belgium, and the Netherlands during her post-doctoral studies. From 2014 to 2019, Dr. Tervanotko was affiliated with the Centre of Excellence "Changes in Sacred Texts and Traditions" (CSTT) at the University of Helsinki. As of 2017, she is a Docent in Old Testament Exegesis at the University of Helsinki.

Dr. Tervanotko was invited to be one of the guest speakers in the first TEDxBrusselsWomen forum in 2016.
